DOUBLE IN-SEASON PASSES TO BE WON (see further below)
THE HEDGEHOG (LE HERISSON) M -
100 mins - 2009
Director: Mona Achache
Actors: Josiane Balasko / Garance Le Guillermic / Togo Igawa / Anne Brochet / Ariane Ascaride
The Hedgehog is touching tale of love, life and the beauty of unexpected friendships. Renée (Josiane Balasko), the concierge of a grand Parisian apartment building, meets with society’s expectations of what a concierge should be: reliable yet uncultured. But beneath this façade lies the real Renée: passionate about books and art and more knowledgeable in many ways than her employers. Meanwhile, several floors up, eleven-year-old Paloma Josse (Garance Le Guillermic) is determined to avoid the pampered and vacuous future laid out for her. Fascinated by art and philosophy, she questions and documents her life, drawing trenchant and often hilarious observations on the world around her. When a new neighbour, the enigmatic Mr Ozu (Togo Igawa), moves into the building Renée and Paloma sense an individual who shares their interest in the unusual.
Cinema Nova presents its forth Page to Picture event with a preview screening of Le Herisson (the Hedgehog) followed by a panel discussion. The Hedgehog is based on the acclaimed book 'The Elegance of The Hedgehog' by French novelist and professor of philosophy Muriel Barbery. On-hand to talk about the film adaptation will be Dave Graney (musician/actor/Triple R broadcaster), Philippa Hawker (the Age), Danièle Kemp (SBS Radio) and more to be announced. Hosted by Thomas Caldwell (Cinema Autopsy, Joy FM, Triple R). Sunday July 4th at 3pm. Tickets from www.cinemanova.com.au

SO FRENCHY SO CHIC 2010
The treasure chest that makes up the 2010 So Frenchy double album offers 34 absolute gems. Just a few highlights would have to include Emmanuelle Seigner, the actress wife of controversial director Roman Polanski, serving up a perfect 80s-esque slice of optimism called Le jour parfait. Another film star making an appearance is Charlotte Gainsbourg, daughter of French music god Serge and a Cannes Best Actress winner for Lars Von Trier’s Antichrist, with a trippy electro track from her latest album, IRM.
Vanessa Paradis may be the best known pop star outside the borders of France, with the possible exception of the First Lady... Read more
